Bob's Turn

The project began with a well-constructed, roomy vessel. A 1992, Monk-designed, Ocean Alexander 44 Classico. After searching for 2 years for the right boat to renovate, Bob Stern found this one in Sidney in 1995, and bought it on first sight. He named it Bob's Turn!

"Immaculate craftsmanship and attention to detail turn a renovation into a work of art."

In 2000 the boat was taken to Vancouver where Bob Stern met shipwright Bob McKnight. A working relationship began. Stern asked for an estimate for the first job which was to install teak on the aft deck. Bob McKnight fabricated the pieces of the deck in his shop, and then installed them with adhesive rather than compromise the fiberglass underneath. The actual cost came within $150.00 of the original estimate. Trust was then established and no further estimates were required. Bob Stern developed his philosophy from this point; "Don't show me how to do it cheaper, show me how to do it better!

New helm stations were fabricated and installed by Bob McKnight. The flybridge was done in fiberglass and the inside bridge with Appalachian walnut.

Built-in fiberglass tacklebox with teak drawers.

There are granite countertops in the galley and the two heads.

It doesn't get much classier than excellent woodwork, a high-gloss finish and gold-plated hardware!
